Find what is near you
The places where we list the most. Each one links to its courses, men's sheds and furniture restorers. Somewhere else? Every course area, every shed area and every restoration area.

Or browse by craft
Eleven kinds of woodwork. Nobody expects you to know the difference between green woodworking and carving before you start, so each one says what it actually is.

Never done any woodwork before?
Neither had most of the people on these courses. Of the 151 that say who they are for, 143 welcome complete beginners, and a lot of them send you home with something you made that day.
Where to begin
Or start with what you want to make
Most people do not arrive knowing they want woodturning. They arrive knowing they want a bowl. Pick the thing and we will show you who teaches it.
What this is
Woodwork UK is a free directory of hobby woodworking courses, community workshops and furniture restorers across the United Kingdom. We run none of them and we take no booking fee.
Every listing links to the people who actually do the thing. They set their own prices and you pay them, or their booking site, directly. We take nothing.
Run something?
If you teach woodwork, run a club, or supply timber and you are not on this list, add yourself. If you are on it and something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. It is free.
Questions people ask about Woodwork UK
What is Woodwork UK?
A free directory of hobby woodworking in the United Kingdom. It lists 543 courses from 176 makers and schools, 933 men's sheds and community workshops, and 322 furniture restorers. Every listing links straight to the provider. We take no booking and no fee.
Does it cost anything to use?
No. It is free to search, free to use, and free to be listed. Nobody pays to appear here and nobody can pay for a better position, so the order you see is not an advertising order. We take no commission when you book, which means we gain nothing from which provider you choose.
How much does a woodworking course cost?
481 of the 543 courses listed publish a price, and the middle one is £180. A day class is usually the cheapest way in; multi-day and residential courses cost more. Prices are what the provider published when we last looked and are dated on each listing.
Can I learn woodworking with no experience at all?
Yes. A large share of what is listed here is written for complete beginners, with tools and timber provided on the day. Spoon carving and green woodworking need the least kit and the least space. The beginners page sets out what to expect on a first course.
What is a men's shed, and can anyone join?
A community workshop where people meet to make and mend things together, usually for a small subscription or a few pounds a session. Age is not a condition anywhere and many are open to everyone, not only men. A shed listing here means the shed exists; only 341 of 933 say in their own words that they do woodwork, and each listing says which.
Who runs Woodwork UK?
It is compiled and checked by Ben Criddle and operated by Fixr Systems Ltd. He is not a woodworker and does not teach any of this: the job is finding these places, checking what they say about themselves, and publishing it with its source attached. Woodwork UK runs no courses and takes no payments.
